The Making of Pichwai Jewellery by Mortantra

The Making of Pichwai Jewellery by Mortantra

I have always wondered if everyone around me truly understands the depth and significance of this sentence which is used so loosely, that jewellery is not driven by logic but by the way you have been perceiving it through your memories, culture and your persona.

Tales of Krishna: The Pure Love Shaping Our Pichwai Jewellery

This collection has lived in my conscience since the time I first heard stories of devotion towards Krishna in any and every form. While Pichwai is traditionally a worship medium of his swaroop of Shreenathji, for me, witnessing people around me worship and devote themselves to him in all his avatars with different love and different devotion was always fascinating.

I am a Jain, so the love and inclination towards his stories was not natural in our household. But I was fortunate to witness devotion in its most beautiful intensity. It began with a friend who considered Bal Krishna her brother, tied rakhi to him and lived those rituals with a sincerity as beautiful as him. The poem about how Krishna won over a serpent was my favourite in class 5. Growing up and hearing so many beautiful love stories of Radha and Krishna, I started idolising the concept of love with such purity and sanctity.

From My Conscience to Yours

The jewellery I make or want to make has always had deep roots in memory. Art is a beautiful medium that makes you travel to stories you have not witnessed and history you have not lived. This Pichwai has lived within me for ten years and here we are finally bringing that thought to life.

Pichwai Jewellery by Mortantra: A Blessing of Indian Heritage

Pichwai by Mortantra is more than just jewellery to me. It carries my childhood, my understanding of devotion and now studying it in so much depth makes me feel blessed to be born in a country that gives me so much to hold close.
